Teaching with MS Teams Meeting (via MS Education)

All faculty with a virtual component to their courses use MS Teams Meetings to meet weekly with their students. MS Teams Meetings is integrated into the Canvas LMS through the new MS Education App.

If you are new to LIM College/Marcuse School of Graduate Studies, and your are teaching with MS Teams Meetings, please make sure to participate in a training. You can click on Learn in the menu to access OLI's current offerings or reach out to OLI directly (oli@limcollege.edu) for more information. Below you will also find information and instructions on using Teams.

Accommodations

In MS Teams Meeting, you have to ability to record meetings and/or enable the transcription feature. Please note, you are not required to record or enable transcription for your meetings unless you receive a letter of accommodation from a student. Once you have received the letter, if you have questions, please reach out to Focrun Nahar, Assistant Director of DEI and Accessibility (accessibility@limcollege.edu).

  1. During Meeting Set Up: To enable recordings, when you set up your meetings, go to Meeting Options, scroll to the bottom and enable Recording. See page 17 in Setting Up Meetings in Canvas to locate Meeting Options.
  2. During Meeting: During your meeting, you click on MORE and then Record and Transcribe. See Introduction to Teams Presentation (page 34). You can also enable closed captions by clicking on MORE, Language and Settings.

Transcripts and recording are posted to the meeting chat once the meeting has ended.

Tips for Success with MS Teams Meetings

The following six tips should get you set up for success with your virtual classes. Don't assume that this tool is the same as Zoom! If you have questions about features in MS Teams, please email the Office of Learning Innovation. If you have any technical issues - camera is not connecting, you can't screenshare, please reach out to IT Support. The contact information is below.

Mac Users:

  • Sharing Screen: You'll need to enable additional security protocols to share your screen. Please visit Information Technology's website, scroll down to Common Issues with Microsoft Teams and review the document: Office 365 - Share Screen on Mac Using Microsoft Teams.
  • Audio/Video: If you have audio/video issues review the document: Microsoft 365 – Allow Audio & Video in Microsoft Teams on a Mac.
