New: Communities of Practice (COPs)

At LIM College, our goal is to provide opportunities for our faculty to build community and share experiences with teaching in all modalities. To this end, we have launched three communities of practice. A community of practice is defined as "people who engage in a process of collective learning in a shared domain of human endeavor" (Wenger-Traynor 2015).

Through these communities of practice, faculty come together to reflect on their teaching, share strategies, and discuss challenges in a supportive, collaborative environment. Whether navigating the transition into teaching at LIM, integrating technologies such as AI into coursework, or supporting the unique needs of our first-year students, these COPs provide structured yet flexible spaces for conversation, ideation, and mutual learning. By centering faculty expertise and lived teaching experience, our communities of practice strengthen teaching effectiveness, foster innovation, and ultimately enhance student learning across the College.

Generative AI in Teaching Community of Practice

The Generative AI Community of Practice is a faculty‑led, collaborative working space focused on improving teaching, learning, and assessment in an AI‑saturated environment.

This group:

  • Centers pedagogy over technology
  • Shares lived teaching experiences
  • Experiments with ideas without mandating adoption
  • Supports thoughtful, ethical integration of AI where appropriate

If you would like to join, please reach out to OLI@limcollege.edu. This group meets monthly throughout the academic year.

Launching Fall 2026: Graduate Faculty Community of Practice

This Community of Practice (COP) invites all graduate faculty from the Marcuse School of Graduate Studies to share insights and strategies for supporting working professionals. Launching Fall 2026: Supporting First-Year Students

This community of practice brings together faculty who teach first-year college students to share strategies and reflect on the unique opportunities and challenges of the first-year experience. In this COP, faculty explore ways to support students as they transition to college academics, navigate increased independence, and adjust to life in New York City, with a focus on engagement, belonging, and student success.
