Session 2: Rethinking Post-pandemic Rigor in Higher Education, Professor Nachum Turetzky, Adjunct Instructor, Arts & Sciences
With the expansion of online teaching, rigor has been a great concern for many higher education institutions in recent pre-pandemic history. Some schools had created systems and tools to ensure rigor. But the pandemic threw things off and it seems that there is a renewed need to examine and develop tools to ensure rigor. To support this conclusion, first, I intend describe my experience in teaching online for about 12 years. Then, I will claim how online teaching became diluted because of the pandemic. Finally, I will discuss how the current return to “normality” – online and in person – presents a difference in students’ mood and requires a fresh institutional thinking and action, at least in terms of rigor.
Session 2: AI-Powered Learning: How ChatGPT and Other Tools are Changing Education , Chu Cheung, Instructional Designer and Deepa Rao-Sisario, Director, Office of Learning Innovation
At this point, we’ve all heard about ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot making waves in just about every industry. In this session, the OLI team will share what we’ve learned about ChatGPT (and other AI Tools) to date.
We will talk about the benefits of AI in education, demonstrate the use of ChatGPT and other AI tools, explore use cases of ChatGPT in higher education, and have the opportunity to discuss and share their ideas with others. By the end of this session, we hope that you will have a better understanding of how AI can be used to enhance teaching and learning in higher education and feel more comfortable using ChatGPT as a tool in your work.
