Design Thinking for Assessment by Provost Scott Carnz, EdD

This presentation offers an introduction to design thinking and its application in higher education. We'll cover the basics of what design thinking is and explore how this user-focused or human-centric approach can enhance creativity and innovation in teaching and assessment. The session includes a brief history of design thinking, an outline of its main phases, and examples of how it can be incorporated into everyday teaching practices.

Have you ever wished you could grade faster and more efficiently?  Looking for a tool to help you grade more consistently and objectively?  If so, this workshop is for you!  The Power of Rubrics will present the definition, purpose, and benefits of using rubrics from both the student and faculty perspectives.  We'll explore some practical examples before learning how to create and integrate rubrics into Canvas assignments.

A praxis approach at LIM College, focused on the fashion industry, bridges the gap between theory and practice, ensuring students are well-prepared for the challenges of their future careers. It fosters practical skills, innovation, and adaptability, crucial for success within all areas of the fashion industry. The presentation will outline the development of the asynchronous Blueprint (Master) courses of MPSE600 Business and Entrepreneurship, MPSX777 Graduate Capstone, and MPSR655 Visual Merchandising, These courses are designed with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, sustainability, and social impact, employing a range of digital tools, collaborative online learning environments, simulation and gamification techniques, and project-based learning. The course development approach aligns with the conference theme by demonstrating how we assess students' understanding and facilitate their learning through interactive and integrative methods.

  1. Examine the use of constructivist, integrative, and reflective learning strategies to understand student comprehension and application of theory in practical contexts. 
  2. Evaluate collaborative online learning environments, simulation and gamification, and project-based learning for their role in a praxis-oriented educational experience.
